Abstract: This 5 page report discusses the ways in which the development theories and schemes of industrialized nations, especially the United States, have had an impact on strategic industrial development programs in other nations. Too often, broad-based assumptions were made regarding non-economic factors and the true complexity and diversity that exists in the real world of (successful) development were ignored. Ironically, such assumptions resulted in non-strategic development that often did not serve the larger goals that had been intended and may have resulted in an overall negative impact.
