Gender Roles in the Antebellum South - A System of Patriarchy Gone With the Wind

Abstract: A 5 page paper that discusses the sexual and social structural system that existed in the antebellum south and how this basic structure was altered by first the Civil War and then the massive socio-economic changes that swept the south following this war. Presented is a portrait of both traditional and conventional images of the southern gentleman and the southern belle, with emphasis focused on the new image of the southern female that emerged after the Civil War. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
