Abstract: A 10 page discussion of the effect of rumors and gossip in the lives of public figures. Identifies the media as the culprit in most instances and concludes that while it is indeed the societal responsibility of the press to ferret out discrepancies in actions and commitments, particularly in regard to politicians, it is simply unprofessional to deliberately circulate inaccurate information. While one option for the person being targeted by an unscrupulous journalist is litigation, that option is not always the best approach. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
