Where is Amelia's Plane?

Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing the controversy surrounding the fate of Amelia Earhart and her navigator. Their plane disappeared in the Pacific on July 2, 1937, only 7,000 miles short of their goal to make the 29,000-mile trip around the world's equator. Two researchers, Long and Timmer, believe her plane to be under 17,000 feet of water and are attempting to locate it, but Richard Gillespie believes Amelia crashed on the island of Nikumaroro, where the team died of exposure. Long and Gillespie have expeditions planned for 2001; each believes his team will find Amelia's plane. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
