The UN's Role in Rwandan Genocide

Abstract: A 12 page paper discussing the UN's failure to intervene in the ethnically-motivated slaughter of 800,000 civilians in Rwanda in 1994. The Hutus and Tutsis of Central Africa were able to live together in peace before European colonization came to the area in the 19th century, but their coexistence has been tense since. The paper provides some of the groups' history, but concentrates on the failure of the UN and the broader international community to step in to halt the slaughter and starvation.
