Latin America: Economic Transitions After Colonialism

Abstract: An 8 page discussion of the economic structure of Latin America during and after colonialism. Notes the transitions countries had to go through after obtaining independence. Emphasizes that these countries still depend heavily on the export of largely raw products and the import of highly processed products, a potentially precarious economic situation. Provides specific examples of the economic transformations of Peru, Mexico and Brazil. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
