Democracy

Abstract: Democracy is commonly defined as a political process and associated with the mechanism of electoral rule, however, it is ineffably intertwined with the processes of government, economics and cultural mandates. This 5 page paper argues that all three of these great philosophers: Mill, Rousseau and Tocqueville, would agree to the statement, 'Democracy is not a mechanical device, it is, rather, a living organism that can only flourish in certain kinds of social soil'.
