Erik Erikson / Implications For Infant And Toddler Care-Givers

Abstract: This 10 page paper discusses Erikson's theories regarding psycho-social development and play. Like many personality theorists, Erikson believed that the child must progress through these stages in order to develop a healthy personality. Failure to resolve the inherent conflicts in any stage leads to emotional and personality problems at a later time. Play, being the infant and toddler's primary activity is also critical to the development of the individual's personality. Different kinds of play are explained. Finally, the implications of these theories for care-givers (or parents) are discussed. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
